Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS)

Australia Awards scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Palauan citizens who are interested in studying at an Australian tertiary institution and are currently residing in Palau. 

Seven scholarships for Palauan citizens are available for the 2025 intake:

  • two (2) undergraduate awards;
  • three (3) postgraduate awards; and
  • two (2) aviation awards – one undergraduate and one graduate certificate.

PRIORITY FIELDS OF STUDY

The priority areas of study are:

  • Health
  • Information and Communications Technology
  • Infrastructure Development and Management
  • Fisheries Management
  • Engineering
  • Agriculture
  • Education
  • Law
  •  Aviation Management (Griffith University)

 

WHAT DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP COVER?

Scholarship recipients will receive the following:

  • Return air travel
  • One-off establishment allowance on arrival
  • Full tuition fees
  • Contribution to living expenses (CLE)
  • Introductory academic program (IAP)
  • Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of the scholarship (OSHC)
  • Supplementary academic support
  • Fieldwork allowance (compulsory fieldwork only)

  • TOEFL: 84 with a minimum of 21 in all subtests
  • IELTS: 6.5 with no band less than 6.0
  • PTE: 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50

APPLICATION DEADLINE

All applications must be received by the Embassy no later than Friday 2 August 2024 4.00pm (Koror Time) for consideration. Late submissions will not be considered.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

Shortlisted applicants will be called for interviews. 

Successful candidates will be notified no later than Monday 28 October 2024.

Australian Grants: Direct Aid Program (DAP)

What is the Direct Aid Program?

The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a flexible, small grants program funded by the Australian Government, available to non-government organizations and community groups engaged in development projects. With up to USD20,000 available per project.

Who can apply?

DAP is available on a not-for-profit basis to community groups, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and other entities engaged in small scale development projects, such as religious groups and schools.

What projects are eligible for DAP support?

DAP is able to fund projects that have a direct, practical and immediate impact.

Favourable consideration will be provided to projects:

  • in the areas of community and/or rural development, education, gender equality, health and disability, sport, youth, human rights, the environment, economic empowerment, agriculture and ad hoc humanitarian relief;
  • where applicants and/or communities make a contribution in labour materials, transport or cash;
  • that are achievable and have sustainable outcomes within a 12-month period; and/or
  • that provide educational or occupational/skills training and have a clear plan for measuring the success of training.

 rojects that would generally not be funded include:

  • micro credit schemes or projects that involve the return of money;
  • commercial ventures;
  • purchase or rental of property or land;
  • routine, recurring running costs and administrative expenses including office rental and utility costs, spare parts, routine maintenance purchase of major assets e.g. vehicles, boats, computers, air conditioning units etc;
  • staff salaries;
  • Australian or overseas study tours;
  • international travel;
  • sponsorship of major sporting tournaments or cultural displays that do not have a clear developmental benefit;
  • freight of goods, except where the applicant demonstrates that it is not possible to source the same items locally; and
  • small scale infrastructure.

Notarial Services

Australian Passport Offices in Sydney or Melbourne can legalise (Apostille/Authenticate) some Australian documents and can issue Certificates of No Impediment to Marriage (CNI). Information on how to request these services via mail can be found in the ‘Documents in Australia’ section on the Smartraveller website.

Passports

Is your passport lost or stolen in the Republic of Palau?

Applying for a passport?

  • For passport information including applying for or renewing your passport, visit www.passports.gov.au.
  • The Australian Embassy in Koror does not issue passports.
  • Australian citizens in Palau seeking to apply for or renew an Australian passport may be able to use the "Digital Upload Function", or may attend a passport interview at the Australian Embassy in KororPlease contact the Embassy by email on [email protected] or by phone on +680 488 4628 for an appointment.

New Digital Upload Function

Customers who have been issued with a 10-year Australian passport since 2006 or who are applying for a child passport will be able to upload their application via the Australian Passport Office website.  In order to use this temporary digital upload function, you must:

  • be located in Palau and have a delivery address in Palau
  • have held a 10-year Australian Passport since 2006; or
  • be lodging an application for a child

If you do not meet the above criteria, this option is not available to you, and you must lodge your Australian passport application in person at the Australian Embassy in Koror.

For customers in Palau who meet the above criteria, follow the steps below to lodge your passport application:

  • Complete the application form online
  • Upload the application form, supporting documents, digital photo and credit card payment authorisation
  • Payment is taken by Credit Card only, in AUD (Australian Dollars)

Once your digital application is being assessed (note this may take up to 4 days), you will receive an email from [email protected] to finalise the payment authorisation.

You will also be contacted if:

  • the application is for a child
  • additional documentation is required
  • there is a problem with what you have submitted
  • you are not eligible for this service

Once your passport has been finalised it will be sent directly to your nominated address in Palau.

  • Please note that if your delivery address is not in Palau, the new upload function will not become available at the application stage.

If you face any issues when completing the passport application or during the account registration process, please contact the Australian Embassy in Koror.

Examples where customers are not eligible for the digital upload function.

  • If you have urgent travel or require an emergency passport you are not eligible use the digital upload function for this reason
  • If you hold a Limited Validity Passport (LVP), you are not eligible to use the digital upload function
  • Age 16 years and older, if you are applying for a passport for the first-time adult passport, provided all other requirements are met: A child who is applying for a first-time adult passport may be issued an LVP. The LVP may be upgraded to a FVP if presented in person prior to expiry).
